68 - THE HIGH PRIEST ENTERING THE SANCTUARY AT ANY BUT THE PRESCRIBED TIME
Leviticus 16:2 -- “And the LORD said to Moses: "Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.”
The Gemara of Menahoth says explicitly: “For entering the sanctuary (outside the time of service) one is liable to whipping.”*

The object of the commandment was: “to raise the estimation of the sanctuary in the eyes of the people.”*
