Deuteronomy 22:9 -- “You shall not sow your vineyard with different kinds of seed, lest the yield of the seed which you have sown and the fruit of your vineyard be defiled.”

“It was the custom of the people in those days to sow barley and stones of grapes together, in the belief that only so could the vineyard prosper. Therefore, the Law forbids us to use seed that has grown in a vineyard, and commands us to burn both the barley and the produce of the vineyard. For the practices of the heathen which they considered as of a magic and talismanic character, even if they do not contain any idolatrous element, are prohibited.”*
